CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man who was believed to have been the oldest person in the country has died at 112.
CP Crawford, who may have been the oldest person in the United States, died over the weekend at a nursing home in Lansing.
Crawford celebrated his 112th birthday in August, and soon after, the man who was a White Sox fan for 100 years, attended his first game.
Activist Andrew Holmes, who runs Club 100 celebrating centenarians, surprised Crawford.
"He was a funny man," Holmes said. "But he always wanted to get to that White Sox game. So I got a limousine and got in touch with the White Sox and I made it happen for him. He was a happy camper."
CP Crawford had been living at Tri-State Village nursing home in Lansing. He was lucid until a couple weeks ago.
Andrew Holmes, who visited Crawford about twice a month, said the nursing home called him at about 6 a.m. Saturday. Holmes said he died peacefully.
