CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 29-year-old Chicago man has been charged in connection with the accidental shooting death of a 3-year-old boy over the weekend.

Ronald Davis faces one felony count of child endangerment and one felony count of unauthorized use of a weapon, Chicago police said Monday.

The charges come after Mikah Davis was found with a gunshot wound to the face Sunday afternoon at a home in the 9600 block of South Escanaba Avenue. The child was pronounced dead at Trinity Hospital.

Chicago police say the elder Davis left a loaded gun in a place where the child could access the weapon. He was expected in bond court Tuesday.

Family members told police they were in another room when they heard a gunshot about 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
