(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Prosecutors in the north suburbs have charged a Grant Township man with the murder of his wife, and authorities are now sharing new details of what happened.
Arguments in their 18-year marriage was nothing new for James and Despina Ruman, Lake County Sheriff's Police Sgt. Christopher Covelli told WBBM Newsradio on Wednesday.
Police have been called several times in recent years to their home on Broomsedge Road, just north of Round Lake, he said.
Covelli said James Ruman, 52, strangled his 47-year-old wife Despina and then may have waited more than a day to call 9-1-1. The murder allegedly occurred sometime over the holiday weekend.
Suspicious injuries prompted police to take him into custody almost immediately. The autopsy determined that Despina Ruman had sustained multiple injuries.
James Ruman's teenaged son lived at home but was not home at the time. Bond is set at $3 million.
Ruman returns to court at 9 a.m. Jan. 9.
