CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Far South Side alderman says Amazon is coming to his ward, but Mayor Lightfoot says nothing is set in stone.
Ninth Ward Ald. Anthony Beale said Monday Amazon has an agreement in principle with a developer to build a 150,000-square-foot fulfillment center at 104th and Woodlawn.
But Mayor Lightfoot said nothing is definite.
"I don't think there's anything to talk about yet. We haven't heard anything from Amazon. So, I think Alderman Beale got a little ahead of himself," Lightfoot said during a morning news conference on the South Side.
But Beale tells WBBM the city is talking to the developer about the project, which Amazon hopes to be completed by Oct. 31 to take advantage of the start of the holiday shopping season.
"I know for a fact that the Mayor has had conversations with the developer who builds these particular stores for Amazon. She's had conversations with them. Her administration's had conversations," Beale said.
Beale says the project will bring 500 construction jobs to the area.
