CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayor Lightfoot had harsh words for a Chicago Police officer seen in a picture making an obscene gesture at protestors during a march on the North Side.
The Chicago Police Department has started an investigation.
Mayor Lightfoot did not hold back during a Friday morning news conference on the South Side.
"We will find that person, and in my view, that person needs to be immediately stripped of his police powers, and that should start the process for firing him," Lightfoot said. "We will not tolerate that kind of abusive, offensive conduct of a police officer, period."
She said the final call on discipline is up to Superintendent David Brown.
The Mayor also said the 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew will remain through the weekend. She said the last few days of protests have been peaceful, and she will reassess the curfew if that trend continues.
