CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A confirmed case of measles in north suburban Cook County has prompted health officials to warn the public about potential exposure to the patient.
The case was confirmed March 26, though the patient, who traveled out of country, is no longer infectious, according to the Cook County Department of Public Health.
"I think the case did not realize that they had measles, and so they were at a bunch of locations and may have potentially exposed other folks sort of unwittingly,” said Demian Christiansen, the department’s director for communicable disease control.
Christiansen says it is the unvaccinated who should be concerned.
Health officials have put together a list of locations the patient had visited recently. People who have visited the sites and now have measles symptoms (including fever, rash, cough, runny nose and red, watery eyes) should contact a doctor:
