(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The village of Melrose Park - which has been desperately trying to keep the owners of Westlake Hospital from closing down the facility - has now asked a court for a temporary restraining order.
A state board is expected to decide whether Westlake Hospital's owners can close it, but that meeting isn't for another three weeks.
In the meantime, the Village of Melrose Park says the hospital's owners have been engaging in what amounts to a shutdown: laying off staff and transferring equipment to other facilities.
So, the village has gone to court, asking for a preliminary injunction.
Pipeline Health, Westlake's owner, has said Westlake is losing money and resources must be used elsewhere.
The company could not immediately be reached for comment.
