Mercy Hospital Shooting, One Year Later: Chicago Officer Remembered

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police Officer Samuel Jimenez -- killed along with three others in the Mercy Hospital mass shooting one year ago this week -- was honored Wednesday at the police district where he worked.

Fellow officers, family and friends gathered at the Wentworth District police station to honor Jimenez on Wednesday.

Among the attendees were Chief of Patrol Fred Waller and Wentworth District Commander Dion Boyd, who both praised Jimenez for responding quickly to the shooting and seeking to stop the gunman even though Mercy Hospital was not in his police district.

Jimenez was killed as he tried to stop Juan Lopez, who police say shot and killed his former fiancée, Dr. Tamara O'Neal, in the hospital parking lot, before shooting and killing Jimenez and pharmacy resident Dayna Less.
