(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Springfield meteorologist who lost his job last month after agreeing with some viewers that his station was alarming people with its "Code Red" weather alerts has a new job with the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.

The ALPLM announced Thursday that Joe Crain will become director of public programming.

We have two great additions to Team Lincoln. One is Joe Crain, who will be our director of public programming. With over 30 years in broadcasting and a strong social media presence, Joe will help us develop events and make sure people know about them. Welcome aboard, Joe! pic.twitter.com/syHDlF7DuJ

Crain's dismissal from Springfield's Channel 20 (WICS-TV) drew wide attention and condemnation by some of his fans.

On June 5, during one of Crain’s morning broadcasts, Crain criticized his station’s parent company, Sinclair Broadcasting, for imposing “Code Red” weather alerts, which Crain said do not conform to the National Weather Service system. The “Code Red” brand had been derided on social media and the community as a combination of Chicken Little and the Boy Who Cried Wolf.

After Crain's firing, the station went with a lower-key approach to alerting viewers about potential danger from storms: "Weather Warn."
