(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The movies aren’t showing on the big screen, but the smell of popcorn is in the air at the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Dave Loomos, co-owner of the northwest suburban movie house, says they shutdown on March 16 but fired up the concession stand a month later.

Thanks to the money coming in from the popcorn sales and the Paycheck Protection Program money they’ve just received, they’ve been able to keep their three full-timers employed.

Cinemas have been closed during the coronavirus pandemic. Illinois’ stay-at-home order expires May 30, but it’s not certain how movie theaters will begin operating and under what new guidelines.
