CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Museum of Science and Industry pays homage to a piece of World War II history.

The South Side museum on Tuesday is marking the 75th anniversary of the capture of the U-505, the only German sub in the United States and one of only four left in the world.

A special exhibit entitled "75 Stories” features rarely seen photos and artifacts that detail the vessel’s capture and the lives of the American and German sailors who were on opposing sides of the conflict.

The U-505 capture was led by a Chicagoan, Capt. Dan Gallery, just two days before D-Day. The German sub was brought to Chicago in 1954.
