Nat King Cole: Still Unforgettable After 100 Years

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Singer Nat King Cole was born 100 years ago and still remains "Unforgettable" to music lovers, more than five decades after his untimely death.

In honor of the centenniary of his birth, here are five facts about the late recording artist:

-Cole was born March 17, 1919 in Montgomery, Alabama, but his family, headed by his minister father, soon moved to Chicago and settled in the Bronzeville neighborhood.

-Cole was among the first African-American artists to host a television show.

-He died at the young age of 45. Cole, a longtime smoker, succumbed to lung cancer on Feb. 15, 1965.
