CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The story of a New Lenox family -- how their 18-year-old daughter almost dying because of vaping, they say – has gone viral on Facebook. Now, they're on a mission to make people aware.
Last month, Ruby Johnson drove her daughter Piper to Colorado to start college.
On the way there, Piper got sick.
"She had a resting heart rate of 155; she's running over 102 temperature; they can't get her oxygen saturation above 90,” Ruby Johnson said at a news conference Thursday.
She says it hurt Piper to take a breath.
“Something has to be done. There's not enough regulation. There's not enough action taken by our politicians, and we need to get the word out," Tim Johnson said. "We may have dodged a bullet with our daughter."
Product makers insist they only market them to adults.
