Hang Tight: We're In For A Real Summer Warm-Up

Keeping dogs cool

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Tired of waiting for summer? Give it a few more days. Forecasters say we're in for hot, humid weather.

Wait for it: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected overnight and through Sunday -- the heaviest rain and possibly hail is expected to hit between 4 to 7 p.m. Highs should be 75 to 85 degrees, the National Weather Service Chicago reports.

But then, the Chicagoland heads toward warmer weather at the beginning of the week, with warm, breezy conditions on Monday and Tuesday with highs in the low 80s.

Wednesday and Thursday will be much hotter, with highs near 87 to 89 degrees. Mugginess, forecasters said, will hit Thursday.

We'll finally get into sustained summer warmth this work week, along with increasing humidity in the mid to late week. After a cold front passage on Monday with showers and scattered thunderstorms, the rest of the week could be dry much of the time. pic.twitter.com/NyfPzXWYwM

We know what you're thinking: It's never taken so long to crack 85 degrees. Not quite.

The National Weather Service Chicago said this year is the fifth time since 1872 that Chicago's first 85-degree day hit after June 22.

(2/2) Lack of warmth info for CHI: 2019 will be only the 5th year on record (since 1872) in #Chicago that the first 85°+ of the year occurred after June 22nd.1- 6/30/1878 (85°)2- 7/2/1883 (90°)3- 6/231884 (86°)4- 7/3/1935 (87°)5- 2019 (date tbd) #ilwx
