CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Rain slowed the 61st annual Chicago Air and Water Show Saturday, but it didn't dampen spirits. More than a million people turned out and tuned in to watch the spectacular show along the city's lakeshore.
City officials suspended the show for roughly 45 minutes at about 11:45 a.m. Saturday as rain fell and because of the potential for lightning, city officials said. Only one act was sidelined because of the rain: Susan Dacy, one of two women performers scheduled for Saturday, who performs in a biplane.
At Gary Airport, the staging area for the show's aircraft, aerobatic aviator favorite Sean D. Tucker dished with WBBM's Mike Krauser about flying in Chicago.
"It's a great spot," he said. "Over the city -- can you give me a break? The skyline's beautiful...it's pretty magnificent."
Sunday's show is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but keep an eye on the weather. The National Weather Service is calling for thunderstorms over the area Sunday, some severe. The chances are highest in the morning, but they could last much of the day.
WBBM will be broadcasting the event live on the radio and on Facebook. We'll also give you an exclusive look at the schedule early Sunday. For all things Air and Water Show, check out our guide, where you will find video, photos, history and schedules of the show.
