Severe Thunderstorm Warning Canceled

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for parts of Illinois until 9 p.m. It was canceled at about 6 p.m. after a brief downpour blew through the city.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been cancelled for all areas expect the nearshore waters of Lake Michigan. The threat for severe weather has diminished. #ILwx #INwx

The National Weather Service Chicago had said that scattered storms are possible through Nothern Illinois, including the Chicago area. Winds as high as 40 miles and hour were possible, along with lightning, heavy rain and stronger, gusty winds. Tornadoes and hail also are possible in a few areas outside of Chicago.
