CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Many people spent time outdoors Thursday as temperatures in the Chicago-area reached record highs of around 60 on Thursday.

Dozens of people on Chicago’s South Side decided to enjoy the nice weather in a very seasonal way.

The outdoor ice skating rink along Midway Plaisance in Hyde Park attracted plenty of skaters, even though the warm temperatures left a thick coat of water over the ice rink below.

Natia Brownlee of Roseland brought her 8-year-old son to the rink. She said it was a rare opportunity for her son to experience outdoor ice skating without having to be bundled up against the cold.

Veronica Tinley of Hyde Park noted the downside. The rink was covered with water as the ice melted, and her niece and nephew were soaked when they fell down.

But Tinley says ice skating outdoors in such warm weather was worth it.
