ANTIOCH (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- One person is hospitalized after a teen crashed a golf cart in unincorporated Antioch last night.

The cart had seating for six but the Lake County Sheriff's office said there were seven on it when the 17-year-old driver took it for a joyride at around 7:45 p.m.

The passengers were relatives who had been at a family holiday party and ranged in age from 11 to 26 years old.

Sergeant Chris Covelli said they were on Drexel Boulevard and the driver made a sharp turn on to Grass Lake Road, crashing the cart and ejecting everyone.

He said six people were taken to the hospital — one with a broken foot and two with head injuries.

The driver has not been charged with anything yet, but Covelli said investigators are reviewing the case.

He reminds people that if vehicles such as golf carts are taken on roads, they must meet local requirements.
