CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Coronavirus is compounding depression, anxiety and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder for teens who Chaynee Rummel usually sees in person at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. So their group therapy sessions are now online five days a week using a web portal with video chat.
While she said her seven adolescent patients have made the jump to online easily because of familiarity with webcams and FaceTime, the move has not been without challenges.
Distractions come in the form of interrupting siblings, pets or cell phones.
Rummel was skeptical of the idea at first but says the new setup is working.
She said she's able to see non-verbal cues such as eye rolls or disengaged body language and steer the conversation.
Some patients are more relaxed because they're in a comfortable environment like their bedroom.
