Only 23 Votes Ahead, Ald. Cappleman Waits On Final Count

Chicago City Hall

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A North Side Alderman said he’s not losing sleep over his re-election bid, which still remains way too close to call.

With fewer than two dozen votes separating him from his challenger, chemist Marianne Lalonde, 46th Ward Ald. James Cappleman may not find out if he gets another term until mid-month.

That is when mail-in ballots and such are counted.

"It feels pretty good -- so, we'll see," Cappleman said.

Cappleman has had two terms in office. He said people are looking for change and he welcomes that. He supported Lori Lightfoot for Mayor. The alderman came to Chicago City Hall for a Health Committee meeting, just like any typical day.

Some of Cappleman's incumbent colleagues failed in their re-election bids Tuesday, most notably 40th Ward Ald. Patrick O'Connor and (according to preliminary vote totals) 33 Ward Ald. Deb Mell. There were 15 contested ward elections this week.
