CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Mayor of Orland Park said some coronavirus restrictions need to end this Friday.
"You can go to an essential store with hundreds of other people, but if you go golf with four people you will get COVID," said Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau.
He also said pot shops and liquor stores are essential.
"Getting high was okay. So was the liquor store. Getting drunk is approved. You really can't make this up," Mayor Pekau said.
Mayor Keith Pekau does not believe there is science behind what he sees as numerous contradictions.
Gatherings of 10 people are okay, he said, but not inside a restaurant; and if you are outside, four people in the group have to sit elsewhere.
"According to the Governor, you are allowed to sit at a table, in a group of 10 people, indoors or outdoors. You can talk and socialize; however, if you want to eat or drink it becomes dangerous. If you are inside, you must move outside. But when you go outside, you must separate four people from the group, because groups bigger than six are dangerous, if you are eating and drinking," Mayor Pekau said. "Whatever you do, don't go inside to eat or drink. COVID is lurking. I am certain there is scientific research and data behind this asinine display of logic."
Mayor Keith Pekau noted in a video the Village Board unanimously approved opening restaurants and other businesses, and reached out to Governor Pritzker - not the first time - and has been met with silence. He is clearly frustrated.
"We have tried to reason with and work with the Governor and legislators. Frankly, we are getting nowhere. There is no logic, data, or science being shared to explain the restrictions we are living with. I call it 'weird science.'"
The Mayor wants to see restricted indoor dining this Friday.
"Enough is enough. It is time to use real data and science," Mayor Pekau said.
