CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some animals rescued from areas hit by Hurricane Laura arrived in Chicago early Sunday morning.
Ten dogs and 15 cats came from shelters in Louisiana where they were being held before the hurricane hit.
PAWS Chicago Spokeswoman Julia Poukatch said volunteers drove 13 hours after picking up the animals in Mississippi, arriving at the shelter's medical center in Little Village at around 1:30 a.m.
They're getting adjusted to their temporary home and receiving medical care before they'll be available for adoption.

Poukatch said the storm and drive were stressful but the pets will soon relax and show their personalities. One already has.
A 1-year-old Labrador mix loves belly rubs, according to Poukatch.
Some of them require a stop in foster care before they're ready for their forever homes including four dogs with heartworm disease and five kittens that are very young.
Anyone interested should check out the PAWS Chicago website and begin the screening process there.
