OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Top flight PGA golf returns to the Chicago area with the BMW Championship for a second year in a row.

Following last year's successful event at Medinah, the 2020 BMW Championship will take place at Olympia Fields on Aug. 18  through 23, 2020.

Organized by Western Golf Association, the championship features the best in golf competing on world-class venues and is the oldest event on the PGA tour. It's also the signature fundraising benefit for the Evans Scholars Foundation, which gives full tuition and housing college scholarships to high-achieving caddies with limited financial means.

WGA Senior Vice President Vince Pellegrino told WBBM that 2019's championship at Medinah brought in a record-breaking $4.4 million for the scholarship foundation.

"There was a lot of hard work that went into it but really the golf ends of Chicago who showed up, volunteered, saw great golf and the corporate community supporting the event led an incredible donation supporting the event," Pellegrino said.

Hear the exclusive interview with Pelligrino, who talks about the tournaments, the future of the FedEx Cup event and the impact of Chicago-area golfing communities.
