CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police tried to break up a large crowd in Englewood on Sunday, arresting two armed offenders amid the scuffle that was caught on video and has since gone viral.
Police were responding to the gathering about 9:42 p.m. in the 7000 block of South Lowe Avenue, Chicago police said in a statement. One officer noticed a male holding a gun, and a chase ensued. He was taken into custody a short time later, as well as another offender who also had a gun.
During the incident, two officers suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospitals in good condition, police said.
Three more people were taken into custody for disorderly conduct, police said.
The video was shared by Chance the Rapper, who wrote on Twitter that police need to "stop sending large groups of militarized police into our neighborhoods" especially during the stay-at-home order.
"Yo I seen HUNDREDS of ppl at millennium park and pics of even more at the parks on the north side. Outside, no masks, no social distancing, enjoying themselves," Chance wrote. "Please stop sending large groups of militarized police into our neighborhoods exclusively."
