Baby Shot In Head During Chicago Drive-By Shooting: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 1-year-old boy was shot in the head Thursday evening in the Longwood Manor neighborhood on the Far South Side. He is now in critical condition and on life support.

About 5:30 p.m., the boy, who goes by Chase, was in the back seat of a parked in the 9900 block of South Throop when he was shot in the head, according to Chicago police. Witnesses told police the gunshots came from a dark, older model car.

The boy was driven to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park and later transferred to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Four other people in the vehicle were not wounded, according to police.

Detectives are looking into whether the shooter had the wrong target.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi wrote in a tweet Friday that authorities “believe this was not a random shooting and are working with the family to get additional information.”

Police said they were checking nearby traffic and surveillance cameras to see where the shooter’s car headed after the shooting.

“We are praying for this young boy as detectives search area for possible crime & traffic cameras that may have captured the offending vehicles direction of flight,” Guglielmi said.

Father Michael Pfleger, on his Facebook page, announce he is offering a $5,000 dollar reward for information leading to the shooter.
