CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Mayoral candidate Toni Preckwinkle says that while she is the Cook County Democratic chair, she has made changes in the old party ways.

Preckwinkle pushed back Thursday against her opponent Lori Lightfoot’s attempts to portray her as part of machine politics. The Cook County Board president said she intends to focus on her experience and vision as she runs for mayor.

Preckwinkle was reluctant to even mention Lightfoot.

“In this campaign, I’m going to put forward my vision for the city,” Preckwinkle said, “and we’re also going to make it clear that there are differences between us.”

On policy, the two candidates seem to share views on many issues. Preckwinkle has her own view on that: “There’s a difference between saying it at a podium and actually doing the work.”
