CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot chimes in as Gov. J.B. Pritzker takes to national media on NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, blaming major crowds at O'Hare International Airport right now on a lack of federal response from the Trump administration.
On Twitter, Lightfoot received the travel ban as poorly planned, saying thousands have been forced into a greater health risk as photos on social media show travelers standing shoulder-to-shoulder with reports from the airport saying there is a four to six-hour wait to get the luggage before waiting around two hours for customs.
Some on social media reply to the mayor's tweet saying that those who chose to fly have made that choice.
Pritzker, who also criticized the handling of international travelers returning at O'Hare, also responded to overcrowding on "Meet the Press," echoing the Lightfoot's concerns on airport staffing. The Department of Homeland Security oversees th Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a reason why Lightfoot and Pritzker criticized the Trump administration for the overcrowding, long lines, and long wait-times international travelers experienced at O'Hare on Saturday. Pritzker told "Meet the Press" host Chuck Dodd that he expects things to be worse Sunday since more travelers are expected.
