
“There is no justice without reversing the disinvestment and, instead, making significant investments in our black communities,” Pritzker said.
Andre Harvey said he encountered racism from co-workers when he served as a police officer and firefighter.
Now he’s the mayor of Bellwood and implored young people of color to apply to work in those positions.
“We have to have people like us police our communities because if we get people who grow up in our communities police our communities, we will hopefully treat ourselves better," Harvey said.
Cook County Board Chairwoman Toni Preckwinkle told the crowd to be careful, be counted and be committed – referring to wearing masks, filling out the census and keeping up the fight for justice.
