Rain, Sleet, Snow, High Waves Expected This Weekend

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – City officials on Friday said they are preparing for the harsh winter conditions — including snow, ice and dangerously high waves along Chicago’s lakefront — that are expected to settle in for the weekend.

OEMC Executive Director Rich Guidice advises people to stay off the bike paths along Lake Shore drive wherever they see blue barricades. Locations that will be cordoned off in include the lakefront at North, Oak and Fullerton.

"We don't want to mess with Mother Nature," he said Friday.

Meantime, Deputy Commissioner of Chicago Streets and Sanitation Cole Stollard says crews from his department will be on roads to help offset expected freezing conditions.

Snowfalls could total up to 5 inches in some areas.
