CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It appears our generally cool and wet spring has more people in the Chicago-area thinking about trips to warm weather destinations.

Melissa Dohmen of the Chicago-based travel website Orbitz said the number of airline bookings from Chicago to places such as Cancun, Florida, Southern California and Las Vegas are significantly higher this spring than at the same time in past years.

"We looked at the monthly bookings from April and May, knowing it has been a very cold and wet spring here in Chicago and did find that lots of city dwellers are out there looking for warm weather getaways," she said.

Orbitz saw the number of airline bookings to Cancun jump by 80 percent compared to last spring, while you might not guess where there was a 150 percent jump in bookings - Austin, Texas.
