CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With the Democratic National Convention over, Illinois Democrats are being pushed to work hard to vote President Trump out of office.

Since Illinois’ delegates to the Democratic National Convention didn’t have to travel, they were already home at the end of the event, and embattled State Party Chairman and House Speaker Michael Madigan told an online gathering the hard work starts now.

"Let's take the anger and the anguish of the last four years and channel it into calls, text messages, and emails to our friends," he said.

West suburban Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, who is in a tough reelection bid of her own, reminded the party faithful that everyone thought Hillary Clinton would win in 2016.

"We cannot afford to be complacent in this election, because that is how we lose all the positive progress that we made for our community. That is how we lose our democracy," she said.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker joined the final online gather of Illinois’ Democratic Convention delegates, and urged the party leaders and faithful to work for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris because, he said, there is so much that Donald Trump lacks as president that the nation needs.

"Perhaps the most important and consequential qualities absent in Donald Trump and are so evident in Joe Biden are kindness and empathy. And in these dark days of COVID, we have never needed kindness and empathy more," he said.

And both he and House Speaker Michael Madigan urged hard work also to pass the graduated income tax on the November ballot as well.
