(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A license to sell recreational marijuana is not a license to print money.

That's the assessment of a cannabis industry analyst.

Brad Spirrison is the publisher of the cannabis industry email newsletter Grown In: Illinois.

He tells the WBBM Noon Business Hour that a marijuana dispensary has high costs up front.

"For individual proprietors, there's a lot of capital investment up front," Spirrison said Friday.

Once the business is up and running, he says a marijuana seller has to be cautious with that initial investment.

"You have to be very cautious about how you set up your infrastructure, how you set up your marketing dollars, and over time how you can develop a business that takes advantage of that licensing opportunity that you get," Spirrison said.
