CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A career fair is scheduled for Thursday in Chicago, and you won’t have to leave your house to attend. The virtual job fair being held by Disabled American Veterans and RecruitMilitary is open to all members of the military community – past and present – as well as military spouses.
RecruitMilitary’s Event Director and Navy veteran Jen Hadac told WBBM they have more than 30 companies taking part in the virtual job fair, looking to hire full-time and part-time workers, as well as those who want to intern or telecommute.
"They are looking to fill positions in human resources, customer service, maintenance. I mean it really runs the gamut. A lot of people are kind of afraid of what's going on in regards to employment right now, but employers know that this isn't something that is going to last forever and they are still expecting to onboard individuals," she said.
Hadac said she know first hand that is can be challenging trying to make the transition from a military career to a civilian one.
"I was an aviation warfare systems operator. I watched blips on a screen. So how does that correlate to a position with say Bank of America, but it does. It's not just the hard skills that are gained, but it is the soft skills - the leadership, the adaptability, the ability to do more with less," she said.
The job fair runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 23. You can learn more about the job fair at recruitmilitary.com and clicking on job fairs.
