(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Arlington Heights woman says she is giving back to the community because the Salvation Army gave so much to her last year when she lost almost everything.
WBBM's Steve Miller reports.
Last year, the Schiller Park home she shared with her husband and seven children burned down.
"It was devastating. The whole world went on my shoulders,” she recalls.
But she says the Salvation Army stepped in. The organization put them up in a hotel and delivered meals.
Now she volunteers, cutting hair for people.
"They tell me things, like 'My husband left me. I feel like I'm not beautiful anymore.'
"And I'm like, 'You've been beautiful the day God chose you to be in this world.'"
