SCHAUMBURG, ILL. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some Schaumburg children had a police escort to do their holiday shopping this morning.
Twenty-five kids picked out gifts for themselves and family members at the Target Woodfield store with Schaumburg police officers.
Schaumburg Police Lt. Christy Lindhurst said slime-making kits, toys and footballs were popular with the kids who were between 6 and 15 years old.
There were some practical purchases as well, with one child saying they needed pajamas.
Each kid had $150 to spend and officers had information from their parents to see what they needed.
Lindhurst said the department chose the kids based on officers' interactions over the year and through social services.
After shopping, the kids went to a holiday party with the officers.
