AURORA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A school bus driver is out of a job and in legal trouble after surveillance cameras captured her buying beer and drinking some of it while transporting students earlier this month in west suburban Aurora.

Aurora police say representatives from First Student Bus Company alerted them Nov. 15 that a driver had been observed purchasing alcohol and getting onto the school bus. A clerk at a convenience store reportedly called East Aurora School District 131 about the sale, and school officials got in touch with the bus company.

"First Student quickly reviewed video from the school bus which appears to show the driver drinking from two beer cans while picking up elementary students during one of the driver’s morning routes," Aurora police said in a news release Tuesday.

"It's infuriating to believe that someone who is trusted with these children on a daily basis could potentially put them in this kind of danger," Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman tells WBBM Newsradio.

Passley had been picking up students to take them to CI Johnson Elementary School, Ziman said.

The former bus driver was released on $100 bond. Her next court date is Dec. 27, police said.

Aurora Police praised everyone who alerted authorities about the driver.
