(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Authorities say they found a four-inch bone in LaSalle County after hearing from a convicted serial killer that he dumped one of his female victims at that site about 15 years ago.

Now, they’re trying to determine if the bone belonged to a human.

The site is a now-closed truck wash in LaSalle County in the Peru area.

LaSalle County Sheriff Tom Templeton on Friday said convicted serial killer Dellmus Colvin, who’s serving time in Ohio, provided information to LaSalle County through a law enforcement trainer’s podcast.

Colvin directed sheriff’s officers to the former truck wash site on Wednesday.

“And cadaver dogs worked the area, and they were able to locate what we believe is a bone. Actually, at this very minute it’s being analyzed by a forensic anthropologist to determine exactly what it is,” Templeton said.

Officers will be back with cadaver dogs, depending on the result of the forensic examination, he said.
