(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Rough waters on Lake Michigan kept the Waukegan Fire Department busy with two separate rescues Saturday night.

The department received both calls at around 6:30 p.m.

The first was for two people who had fallen off a jet ski and were in the water for an unknown amount of time.

Fire Marshal Steven Lenzi said when crews arrived at Waukegan Harbor, a private boat had pulled them out of the water.

A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. His passenger was not injured.

Then, Lenzi said, the U.S. Coast Guard asked his department to help rescue 14 people from a boat stranded in the lake about two miles north of the harbor, near the Midwest Generation Power Plant.

The group included children. No one was injured in that incident.

Lenzi encourages the public to be safe around the water in these last few days of summer.
