CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Airports across the country have seen a great deal of stress because of the shutdown, with air traffic controllers and TSA agents either working without pay or calling out sick.

At Midway, WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller rode the escalator with two TSA employees who expressed relief.

They said the shutdown was the stupidest thing ever; one of them said the president could have avoided it 35 days before.

A traveler Miller interviewed said she had been in Chicago for a conference and East Coast delegates were delayed not by weather but by the shutdown's effect on air traffic control.

"I think the whole thing is ridiculous," she said before catching a plane to California.
