CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The plant-based meat craze is making its way to Soldier Field.

Thanks to Saturday Night Live and The Superfans, Bears fans are known for eating mass quantities of Italian beef and Polish sausage. But now, a plant-based burger will be served alongside the beefy offerings at Solider Field.

The Chicago Tribune reports, the plant-based burger will come from Elmhurst-based Greenleaf Foods. The burger is called Lightlife and Greenleaf Foods' President and CEO Dan Curtin said it's important to have local presence.

“Being in Chicago is very important to us...it’s the perfect environment," Curtin told the Tribune. “We have a great distribution and we want to support our hometown team.”

According to Greenleaf Foods, the Lightlife quarter-pound burgers have 0 cholesterol and 2.5 grams of saturated fat, compared with the 80 milligrams of cholesterol and 9.3 grams of saturated fat found in beef patties of a similar size.

The burger will be served at concession stands and club suites at Soldier Field. It made its debut at Sunday's game against the Vikings.
