(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Bitter cold and broken wires have made it a rough winter for riders on the South Shore Line. Monday and Tuesday will be another example.
Operators say they’re taking pre-emptive action to replace several morning trains with buses March 4 and 5 on the eastern third of its 90-mile line to and from South Bend, Ind.

March 2, 2019 Eastbound Train 401 is canceled both days. Buses will substitute between Michigan City and its South Bend airport terminal on eastbound train 403 and westbound trains 6 and 14 both days, skipping Hudson Lake.
The trains are expected to operate on normal schedules between Carroll Avenue/Michigan City and Chicago's Millennium terminal.
The 1,500 volt-DC wire that powers South Shore trains has proven to be brittle this winter when contracting. The railroad offered discounts on commuter passes and free westbound trips during previous disruptions.
