CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Chicago's two mayoral candidates wasted little time dropping their gloves Thursday in the first of the televised debates leading up to the April 2 runoff election.
WBBM Newsradio's Bob Roberts monitored the NBC Chicago debate.
Preckwinkle started, by trying to portray Lightfoot as a corporate attorney who has betrayed progressive causes.
"She herself was one of the attorneys that defended Merrill Lynch against discrimination suits by African Americans," she said, as Lightfoot tried to interject.
Lightfoot noted the Preckwinkle, the current Cook County Board president, just accepted a $2,500 donation from one of Lightfoot's partners at Mayer Brown.
"Why are you constantly soliciting to your current campaign from partners at Mayer Brown? That is the height of hypocrisy," Lightfoot said.
Lightfoot, former president of the Chicago Police Board, said this is the election of our time.
Earlier this week, Preckwinkle received endorsements from Chicago Ald. Walter Burnett and Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.
