(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Twenty-two special children have brand new motorized carts that will make them the talk of the neighborhood, thanks to the Marianjoy Rehabilitation Institute.

The organization fitted them and let them take a test drive before sending them home.

Jessica Cartwright said the customized Power Wheels cart, fitted with special hand controls, a seat belt and foam cushioning, will open more of the world to three-year-old son Danny.

“He’s not able to stand or walk or move very easily,” she said.

Danny kicked and fussed as the changes were made, but once he and his brother sat in it together, the tears turned to smiles.

Donors to the Marianjoy Foundation paid for the carts; assembly was by volunteers.
