
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- State health officials announced 2,806 new coronavirus cases and 23 deaths Saturday, a day after the state saw a backlog of testing numbers that resulted in over 5,000 new cases.
The Illinois Department of Public Health also reported 6,900 tests administered in the last 24 hours. On Friday, due to the backlog error, the state reported 149,273 tests.
The preliminary seven-day statewide positivity for cases as a percent of total test from Aug. 29 – Sept. 4 is 4.2%.
In Chicago, the city's positivity rate is again at 5.2% with an average of 334 new cases a day. The city has seen 8,139 daily tests in the last week with about 1,090 confirmed cases since Aug. 29.
Within the past 24 hours, laboratories have reported 61,935 specimens for a total of4,371,876. As of last night, 1,547 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 360 patients were in the ICU and 151 patients were on ventilators.
Illinois' total is now 248,177 cases, including 8,166 deaths, in 102 counties.
