CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The New Year brings several tougher traffic laws to Illinois.
One law makes it illegal for drivers to stream videos on their mobile devices while on the road. Supporters of the bill say the law was necessary because current state law was unclear about whether streaming videos while driving was illegal.
Fines are increasing in Illinois for reckless driving, passing stopped school buses and speeding in construction zones.
The maximum fine for hitting a worker in a road construction zone will increase in the New Year from $10,000 to $25,000.
Drivers who fail to move over when they see flashing emergency lights on the side of the road will face $250-fines for first offenses and $750 for repeat offenses. If those drivers hurt anyone or cause property damage, they also face suspension of their drivers licenses.
