Suburban Man On Life Support Dies Following Beating, Family Says

UPDATE: Keith Chamble died Wednesday morning.

HAZEL CREST (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of Keith Chamble -- the retired correctional officer beaten outside his Hazel Crest home last week -- says doctors have told them Chamble is brain dead, and now they are preparing to donate his organs to help others.

The goddaughter of the 60-year-old Chamble says the family has met with the doctors.

"They said he didn't have any brain activity. They did a test. They put this dye in to see if there was any blood flow, and he doesn't have any activity,” she told WBBM Newsradio Tuesday. “He hasn't been breathing on his own. There's nothing else they can offer. There's nothing else they can do."

Shanae Cross says the family has mixed emotions about Chamble being an organ donor.

"The hospital let us know that because he signed the back of his driver's license that they would donate his organs, even though we told them that we didn't want him to be on the machine. We didn't want him to suffer any more.

"But they said that because he signed the back of his license as an organ donor, they have to follow his rights and his will, you know?"

Hazel Crest Police have said Chamble was robbed when he was beaten.  He managed to make it inside his home, where he collapsed.
