(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The family of a 12-year-old Markham boy shot in the knee during a police SWAT raid at his home in May has filed a personal injury lawsuit against police.
WBBM's Jim Gudas reports.
Attorney Al Hofeld Jr. represents the family of a 12-year-old boy named Amir. Hofeld says the boy was inadvertently shot by a Richton Park SWAT officer, as the officer was putting away a flashlight.
Amir's 13-year-old brother was handcuffed for nearly an hour, the attorney said.
Hofeld says the raid was related to drug and gun charges against the boyfriend of the boys' mother. Those charges were later dropped, he said.
The family hasn't determined the amount of damages it's seeking, Hofeld said.
WBBM has reached out to police in Richton Park and Country Club Hills, which also had officers taking part in the raid, for comment.
