Driver Killed In Fiery I-294 Crash

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A person was killed in a fiery crash Thursday morning on Interstate 294 in the southwest suburbs.

The person was driving a black Nissan Sentra north on I-294 at about 6:50 a.m. when they swerved towards the ramp to Interstate 55, Illinois State Police said.

The Nissan hit a rail, spun into traffic and was struck by a red Chevrolet Silverado, state police said.

The Nissan burst into flames, and the driver was pronounced dead on the scene, state police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death, but has not identified the driver.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.
