Evanston Man Faces Gun Charge After Rogers Park Traffic Stop

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man was charged with gun and drug possession after a traffic stop this week in Rogers Park on the North Side.

Andre Johnson, 25, is facing a felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a firearm, according to a statement from Evanston police.

He also told the officers he had a loaded gun in the vehicle, and that he had a valid FOID card, but no concealed-carry permit, police said. Police found a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun in the Hyundai. Johnson was arrested and the car was impounded.

Johnson was also charged with a misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license and issued citations for possession of less than 10 grams of marijuana, driving without insurance and failing to signal 100 feet before a turn, police said.

He has since been released on electronic monitoring and is due back in court Dec. 17 at the Skokie Courthouse, according to police.
