First Coronavirus Case In Indiana Confirmed: Health Officials

Coronavirus

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Indiana resident has tested positive for coronavirus, the first in the state, health officials said Friday.

The patient is an Indianapolis resident who recently traveled to Boston, the Indiana State Department of Health said in a statement.

The adult has been quarantined since arriving back to Indianapolis, and the risk to the public is low, health officials said.

The Centers for Disease Control is working to identify and notify air travelers who were on the person's flight from Boston.

In the statement, Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb said, "With the help of our federal, state and local partners, Indiana is responding to this case as we have planned and prepared for weeks. The Hoosier who has been diagnosed has taken responsible steps to stay isolated."

On Thursday, health officials announced that a fifth resident of Illinois tested positive for coronavirus.
